Jay Welsh is the executive vice president and general counsel of JAMS, now the largest mediation company in the world. Jay has been with JAMS since 1991 and has played a major role in the growth of JAMS nationally and internationally. He is responsible for the quality of the JAMS neutrals, which include many former and prominent judges throughout California and the United States. JAMS has 21 offices throughout the country and approximately 50,000 lawyers a year pass through the JAMS doors.Jay is responsible for all legal matters associated with the thousands of matters arbitrated and mediated at JAMS each year. In addition to the legal and risk management duties, Jay was a founder of the JAMS Foundation, which has grown to be the largest nonprofit in the country making grants to Alternative Dispute Resolution projects in the country. He also founded the JAMS Institute, which provides all of the internal training for new mediators and arbitrators joining JAMS. These training are on all kinds of ADR topics, including problems associated with mediating and arbitrating a complex case. In addition, Jay has spearheaded the JAMS initiative into the EU and the UK as the need for effective mediation and arbitration in these areas has grown. He launched the international practice with partners in Italy and offices in the Netherlands and London.

  Jay Welsh is the General Counsel of JAMS and has played a prominent role in the growth of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) since 1991. As General Counsel of JAMS, he oversees all legal matters, panel quality, risk management, and ethics. In addition to his duties as General Counsel, Welsh was a founder of the JAMS Foundation and guides both the Foundation and the JAMS Institute, which provides JAMS panel of neutrals with training on all ADR topics. Currently, Welsh has been leading the JAMS initiative in international mediation and arbitration.
