Projects included food and school supplies distribution, service projects for college students, business partnerships and teen mentoring. In each of these, I was continually drawn back to personal strength of communicating well. News updates, specific direction for volunteers and students, strategic planning, fund appeals, documenting progress...most I had done nationally, now was doing locally. I learned more about my city of Orlando, who's who there, and the strengths and challenges of a small team, in those six years than I had in my previous 15 simply "based" there, traveling nationally. It would be like stepping from a large hospital administration role to work in the ER or a doctor's office...my observations, experiences, challenges and lessons have been invaluable.
