Creativity. Growth. Authenticity. Life-long learning. These are some of the values Wendy's aligned with. To Wendy, work feels more like play which reminds her of her favorite Kahlil Gibran quote: "Work is love made visible". Just don't ask her to pick one thing to do the rest of her life. Or give up her flip-flops.Wendy only discovered writing in her 40s. Since then she has written over 200 articles for publications such as the LA Times, Reader's Digest and the Globe & Mail. She also had a weekly kid lit column for the New Brunswick Reader for three years, and was a regular contributor of reviews to Atlantic Books Today, the Canadian Children's Book News and the Globe & Mail for five. Then she started writing her own kid's books. Wendy's the author of Sable Island: The Wandering Sandbar (Nimbus) and nine nonfiction books for the US Library & School Market. She has yet to break into fiction with her picture books and chapter books but works hard at her craft and is repped by Red Fox Literary. As a freelance writer, Wendy has over 20 years' experience writing communications products for various non-profits, corporations and government departments. Sometimes she has to put on socks and shoes for that type of work but never for long. Wendy also spends a lot of time helping others get their writing out into the world by providing one-on-one consultations, editing and writing workshops. She also offers design and publicity services to other children's book authors who really don't care how she shows up as it's usually on Zoom. ;-) She loves to draw and paint, too. Lately she's been trying her hand at illustrating kid's books, something she has dreamed about doing since childhood. And anyone who knows Wendy knows movies are like oxygen to her. She can't live without that type of storytelling. So it should be no surprise that she's now writing screenplays and placing in various screenwriting contests.
