HWIO Verification Design Engineer (2012-Present)Manage external suppliers of HWIO software for several automotive hybrid-electric controller programs to ensure consistency across product lines and effective compliance to GM’s extensive controller development requirements. Developed comprehensive documentation of requirements for HWIO verification testing using a complex tool set including change management databases, build macros, and MS Word. Developed new requirements documents for software interface testing and verification for suppliers providing HWIO software to GM. Currently helping my team transition to a new corporate-directed process and tool set for requirements documentation by migrating existing documents to the new system while making improvements.

Oversight of cross-functional product development teams of design engineers on a hydrogen fuel cell automobile project. Managed the design release of the power electronics controller hardware and HWIO software as specified by the GM controller requirements. Traveled extensively to customer sites for trouble shooting and data collection on hybrid diesel-electric urban transit buses. Analyzed data and reported results to engineering management and service organization. Collected data on standardized duty cycles for fuel economy and emissions improvements in engine/transmission test cell. Presented software performance improvements to controls team and validated software changes. Extensive experience with systems integration for multi-platform automotive controls for commercial vehicles, as well as dynamometer testing of components and vehicles. Developed testing processes and tools for use in fuel economy and gaseous emissions testing.

Created concepts, designed to customer specifications, and directed the build of automotive components testing and manufacturing lines. Designed PLC software to integrate automation controls, PC-based applications and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to coordinate with component supplier’s customers’ vehicle build schedule as per customer specification.Received a patent as a co-inventor for a method for PLC control of remote discrete input-output devices. This method has been in use for torque and position control of nut/bolt driver operator tools for several years. Extensive experience with integrating Allen Bradley and Modicon PLC controls with other systems, including robots, Windows-based operator controls, and other PLC systems as part of a Manufacturing Execution System.

Maintained and improved multi-faceted automated controls for manufacturing line producing high quality electrical components for automotive generators. Extensive programming experience with Modicon PLC. Experience with Adept, GMF and Kawasaki robotics, plus various sensors, switches and testing equipment. Continuously improved the production process by working with UAW operators and others to identify weaknesses. Received basic training in statistical engineering and lean manufacturing systems.Extensive experience with traditional manufacturing processes, including operator assembly stations, light press assembly, injection molding, metal stamping, and robotic welding.
