● Certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician.● Responsible for the daily care of research animals, including: husbandry, animal observation, handling and treatments, investigator research support/communication, cage cleaning / sanitation, facility maintenance, data collection, updating protocols, and working with USDA species. ● Proficient animal experience with mice, rats, rhesus macaques, zebra fish; fundamental experience with guinea pigs, ferrets, gerbils, hamsters, and rabbits. ● Working knowledge of rodent colony management, breeding / weaning procedures, biological safety levels and precautions, and record keeping protocols with respect to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the US. Department of Agriculture (USDA). ● Required to be on UNC Chapel Hill’s campus as a mandatory employee during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to ensure the well-being of the research animals as well as the laboratory facility. Situationally required to update scientific procedures and develop working standards of protocol for (future) pandemic episodes without any underlying precedents. ● Involved with the imports, husbandry, and transfers of SARS-CoV-2 susceptible mice for Dr. Ralph Baric’s research.
