“Inside of every problem lies an opportunity” – Robert KiyosakiOne of the things I’m most proud of is being a script supervisor. Since my degree is in film and I am formally trained for it, I didn’t know script supervisors are not created equal. One thing I bring to every set is my ability to improve myself and become more efficient in how I work and support other members of a production. There are few careers where 40-90% of strangers come together and asked to bring their skills to combine with people who are to become a team. For what I do, it qualifies…and it’s always remarkable to see. In particular, meeting such diverse individuals that become not only friends, but some even best friends, is an appreciation I have about my work.I have a personal mission of wanting to know and understand people and working in film is no exception. To remember someone’s name, look them in the eye, and give them your undivided attention is rare experience for many. It is something I’ve found that makes a difference in the long run when meeting people.Albert Einstein once said, “Once you stop learning, you start dying.” I take and apply this quote to my life because life offers too much knowledge to ignore. I read at least four books a month and study body language and memory techniques. There’re many things that make me laugh but one in particular is the look I get when I tell people I’ve been taking cold showers for the last two years!! Having done it for a while, I can tell you that if your mind and body aren’t in sync, a cold shower will definitely put it in perspective for you!So back to my perspective on being a script supervisor…When about a year has passed and production has wrapped, it’s nice to see a film I’ve worked on is receiving recognition from film festivals. Knowing that I was one of many that helped bring the director’s vision to life, that took years to develop, is something few will really understand and appreciate – but it is why I love my job!
