Dr. William E. Smith (W.E.S.) is a dynamic musician, composer, producer, and educator celebrated for his ability to craft music spanning jazz, hip hop, rock, pop, orchestral, ambient, world, and EDM genres. With a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology and degrees in jazz composition and jazz studies, Dr. Smith brings a rich blend of academic rigor and creative flair to his musical endeavors.Currently an associate professor of music technology at Bowie State University, Dr. Smith has also left an indelible mark at Howard University, North Carolina Central University, and American University in Washington, DC. His teaching career is underscored by roles as a music industry coordinator, online ethnomusicology program coordinator, and jazz ensemble director, where he's mentored aspiring musicians and technologists alike.Dr. Smith's musical journey is a tapestry woven with collaborations alongside luminaries such as James Moody, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell, and Wynton Marsalis, Jon Hendricks, Fred Hammond, Hezekiah Walker, Malcolm Jamal-Warner, Wayna, Aster Aweke, Asheru, Oddisee, and Cynda Williams.
