Association management was relationship management at its core. As a career, it was interesting, challenging, and it finely honed my soft skills, especially those relating to conflict mitigation and ethics. I enjoyed the responsibility of acting as both consultant and administrator to highly-educated, experienced, and distinguished Board members, and persuading them to see the big picture regarding a communication plan or a budget I had drafted. The other wonderful thing about association management was the diversity of the work- there was a new challenge every day; a new way to help people meet their goal of protecting and enhancing the value of their residential or commercial real estate and amenities. The industry molded me into a skilled jack-of-all-trades. In a given week, I might develop an accurate reserve budget, alleviate a PR or customer service pain point, build a new website, or perhaps most satisfyingly, tackle interesting projects alongside volunteers who brought an incredible diversity of skills to the table. At PPM, I specialized in management for single family community associations, townhome communities, commercial properties, and developer-controlled communities. I had extensive experience managing and developing the members of the Boards of Directors and committees, generally numbering around 70-75 annually.
