Working in Project Plus Unit and AMV3 (Benguela Gem) Support

LARS (Launch and Recovery System) specialist, AMV3 Project (Benguela Gem).I was part of the two-man LARS team. I was responsible for the engineering/technical delivery of the LARS for De Beers' new marine diamond recovery vessel.

Mechanical design, FEA, CAD, consulting and project management for 3CMB (previously Belmet Marine).

Initially employed as Senior Engineer at IHC EB in Newcastle, UK, to act as technical liaison forIHC MMP in Cape Town (eight-month period abroad). On return to SA I was appointed as a Project Manager.

Mechanical design work for various clients: 3CMB (Belmet Marine), Petrel Engineering, Algoa Oil (Port Elizabeth branch, now part of NOV), Denith Engineering and a few other companies.

Researcher in Structural Mechanics department (under leadership of Prof. A Groenwold), lectured mechanical design projects (final year students) and computer programming (C language, 1st year students). Also worked towards my MScEng during this time.

Mechanical and Structural Design in the Marine environment.

Designed deck equipment for the fishing industry (winches and cranes) and hydraulic components (e.g., cylinders and rotary unions). It was mostly adapting or changing existing designs, but it also included novel designs including a Lloyd's Register (LR) approved anchor winch (windlass) and LR appraised fixed boom crane.

Designed MMUs (Mobile Manufacturing Units, or "Explosives Trucks" as they were called) from scratch and also by studying existing units. My main focus was the Heavy ANFO trucks.
