During my time at Amazon, I contributed to several organizational initiatives (launching a new ML feature evaluation system, ML operations, launching a data labelling system, and a 16 PB data warehouse migration). I worked with a variety of technologies both external and internal (Java, AWS, CDK, React, TypeScript, Python, scikit-learn). Below, I share some of the contributions that I am most proud of.Discovered and introduced new methods to predict scaling requirements for peak events such as Prime Day using machine learning. Reduced estimation error from hundreds of percent to less than ten percent and reduced the duration of the process of gathering scaling requirements from weeks to minutes.Developed a probabilistic sampling solution to produce metrics for millions of data points per minute. Applied probability theory to optimize metric accuracy, CPU utilization, and storage costs. This innovation enabled my organization to confidently identify unused and meaningless ML features that can be deprecated, reducing costs.Analyzed and resolved operational issues with nine production ML systems handling millions of requests per minute (including everytime an order is placed on Amazon). For example, in one such issue, a team noticed a gradual increase in latency over several months of the ML evaluation system (comprised of at least six services)—I showed that the root case was increasing CPU utilization in the ML feature calculation system.

Expanded Scala clustering library used by 98 teams to support external data. Designed and implemented metrics framework to instrument clustering library. Research and discover novel methods for avoiding clustering and detection.

Ensured correctness and quality of labs, handouts, quizzes, and practice exams for the 2020 Bridge program. Provided feedback to developers on areas of excellence and areas for improvement.

Managed a lab section for the CS Bridge program at Purdue. Delivered presentations twice a day, administrated the lab, and assisted roughly forty-five incoming freshman in getting their first introduction to programming.

Utilized Ruby on Rails to create and execute database migrations, introduced a new API version with updated endpoints, and improved routing and organization. Implemented backend logic in multiple projects to support development of an in- house ETL and data warehousing solution. Introduced and documented multiple enhanced debugging tools. Architected and implemented multiple user-facing, frontend improvements.

Designed new and challenging content, labs, and activities for next year’s generation of Computer Science students. Developed with Java, on subjects related to object-oriented programming.

West Lafayette, Indiana

Returned to Bridge (previously a student) to assist incoming freshmen with no programming experience in learning Java and adapting to college life. Delivered several presentations, including how Java is compiled and run.The Bridge Program allows freshmen who have not programmed before to come to Purdue three weeks early and get hands-on experience with Java in an environment similar to what they will experience during the school year. This program has been proven to be extremely beneficial to students who may feel intimidated by computer science.
