About Will Botham

I started my Product design Degree because I knew that my best skills are as a creative person who is interested in how things work and why. I’ve been working in the engineering industry for 5 Years, predominantly working as a mechanical design engineer, during this time I’ve worked on a variety of products that I am very proud to see on the market today. My previous employment was with Kostal UK, who are a German automotive supplier whose main focus is on switches and mechatronics for a range of automotive companies. During my 4 years with Kostal I worked on a range of projects, the first major project was the start/stop switches for the VW group, for the final 2 years I was the lead engineer for this project. While the product its self is relatively simple it gave me a lot of chance to learn the basics of switch design, design for manufacture and experience in communicating with the customer which was great exposure to something university does not prepare you for.The second major project I has was a set of capacitive sensing screens for steering wheel switches in the new Jaguar Land rover vehicles. This project was fantastic as is was new technology for our company, for which we had very little guidelines, so we were constantly learning as the project evolved.
