As part of Operation Smile's sub-Saharan Africa team I work with our 10 regional country offices to support the planning and execution of their programmatic activities, ensure our work is aligned to Operation Smile’s global strategy, support operational briefs such as renewal of partnership agreements with local hospitals and ministries of health, drive local fundraising, provide colleagues and donors with programme reports, and support the Senior Regional Vice President with administrative tasks such as travel arrangements and preparing for meetings and presentations. I travel frequently to sub-Saharan Africa to visit hospital sites and regional offices, to take donors to the field, and to support the execution of short-term surgical programmes, volunteer placements and surgical training rotations. I work with Operation Smile’s global operations department to develop annual budgets and activity plans for each of the countries in our region, and to monitor the implementation of these plans throughout the year, and work alongside fundraisers in the US and Europe to develop donor reports and fundraising applications.

Continued fundraising, primarily focused on trusts and foundations, with increased responsibility of management of major partnerships. These included a multi-year grant worth over $5m and a partnership with the UBS Optimus Foundation which was executed across three different countries.

Strong bid writing, reporting and researching skills alongside partnership management lead to an increase of over 50% in new business income in my first full year in this role.

Working with schools and universities to raise money for Operation Smile's global cleft care programmes and develop student's leadership skills. Recruited and chaperoned student participants from the UK for Operation Smile's annual International Students Leadership Conference in San Diego, Seattle and Rome, and took a group of four school pupils to Cebu, Philippines, to join an Operation Smile short-term medical programme.

I wrote and delivered presentations about water scarcity to school children at International school across Beijing, aimed at encouraging behavioural change and developing young leaders within their communities.
