Congressman Loebsack currently sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and serves on the Communications and Technology Subcommittee as well as the Energy and Power Subcommittee.In this role I was the lead staff member managing the following policy areas: Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Financial Services, Firefighters & First Responders, General Budget & Deficit, Homeland Security, Housing, Immigration, Interior, Small Business, Taxes, Trade, Transportation & Infrastructure, and Water (Flood).Additionally, I coordinated the Congressman’s Energy and Environmental policy areas within the Energy and Commerce Committee, including his work as a champion of wind energy and the renewable fuel standard. Policy advising includes monitoring ongoing issues and legislation, developing vote recommendations, creating and introducing new legislation, preparing issue memos, writing speeches, event memos and op-eds, and coordinating all other activities in my policy areas.As a legislative assistant I was responsible for building and managing relationships with interest groups, constituents, advocates, and other Congressional and Administration staff. I acted as a liaison between constituent companies, non-profits, and local governments in their work with the federal government, including assistance with grant applications, and other regulatory concerns. Finally, I contributed to the office's constituent mail program. This included drafting letters in response to constituent comments and questions in my issue areas, and editing letters written by junior staff.

In our office I functioned essentially as director of operations. As Scheduler I was expected to manage the Member's time efficiently. This included handling the process of scheduling meetings with influential organizations and constituents as well the processing and strategically planning what events the Congressman will attend in Washington, DC. As Office Manager I ensured that the $1.2 million office Member Representational Allowance is allocated efficiently and effectively through attention to office function. This included purchasing all supplies and technology as well as handling staff payroll. As an Intern Coordinator I interviewed vetted applicants and hired suitable interns based on office needs and candidate qualifications.

I helped re-elect Congressman Dave Loebsack to his 5th term representing Iowa's Second Congressional District. I was part of a finance team that significantly outraised the candidate's past fundraising by raising $1,733,368 for the 2014 election.I fully managed candidate call time including staffing the candidate and following up. I redesigned call time structure to increase efficiency and productivity.I worked with the Finance Director and the rest of our staff to build events. This included preparing invitations, and coordinating staff calls to ensure turnout. I then worked independently or with the Finance Director to staff the event. I also handled writing and preparing bi-weekly thank you notes. I processed the daily mail, and I handled check processing and compliance correspondence. I assisted the Finance Director with NGP maintenance, organizing mailings, and donor research.Timeline: Finance Intern (Feb-May), Finance Assistant (May-July), Deputy Finance Director (July-January).
