I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, attending Kalamazoo Public Schools and therefore receiving the Kalamazoo Promise Scholarship which allowed me to attend Kalamazoo College, class of 2023. I played soccer for 2 years at Kalamazoo College and co-founded the Kalamazoo College Birding Club. I started my professional life as a land stewardship technician with the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy where I put to use my long standing passion for land protection and developed skills as a naturalist and as a land rehabilitator. When I moved to the Michigan Natural Features Inventory, I learned from some of the best naturalists in the country and worked on several projects collecting data on threatened and endangered bird and butterfly species. This work allowed me to collect data on what would eventually amount to my Senior Individualized Project (SIP) at Kalamazoo College which evaluated habitat preference for three declining grassland sparrows and advised land managers on best practices for managing for these species. Upon my graduation, I left for Costa Rica where I worked as a bird guide at the Nectar and Pollen Reserve near Guapiles. I am now an on-call avian field technician with ECT working on projects across the US.
