Developed and implemented original research projects in the area of surface chemistry with applications for solar cells, transistors, and OLEDs. Designed, assembled, and maintained vacuum deposition systems for thin-films growth on a variety of substrates, and analyzed thin-film properties using high-vacuum measurement techniques including XPS, UPS, as well as other characterization methods, such as SEM, AFM, ellipsometry, and goniometry. Routinely fabricated devices and measured their electrical properties, using that data to optimize thin-film growth to improve performance and reliability of devices.Worked with a team sponsored by the DOE Sunshot program for the development of low-cost photovoltaics. Developed process for growth of thin films of TiO2 on Si surfaces for silicon/titanium dioxide heterojunction photovoltaics. Characterized the Si/TiO2 interface, fabricated solar cells, and analyzed device performance. Research resulted in peer-reviewed publications and a pending patent application. Developed process for the growth of thin, conformal films of TiO2 on semiconducting small molecules/polymers and the subsequent attachment of self-assembled monolayers for modifying the electronic, optical, and wetting properties of these materials for use in electronic devices. Research resulted in several collaborations with researchers in Electrical and Chemical Engineering, and multiple peer-reviewed publications.
