- Continued further research in to microplastic pollution in the Finger Lakes, focusing on Seneca, Hemlock, and Canadice Lakes- Analyzed both surface and bottom water of the three lakes using a Niskin bottle to determine potential effects of lake size, depth, and geography on microplastic fiber contamination- Water filtration methods included vacuum filtration using 0.5 micron filters, with fiber counts being performed by hand using a fluorescent UV light, camera and ImageJ- Statistical analysis in Rstudio determined a difference in the vertical distribution of microplastic fibers in Canadice Lake, possibly due to the lack of filtration from the invasive Quagga and Zebra mussels found in the other two lakes

- Conducted a microplastics study as part of ongoing research determining the extent of pollution in the atmosphere and water around the Finger Lakes- Collected and processed hundreds of water and air-fall samples using vacuum filtration, while refining collection methods to minimize contamination. Developed a new method to detect microplastics in settled lake sediment using density separation through extensive trial and error. Analyzed data via Excel and Rstudio. - Presented findings at the American Meteorological Society conference in the winter of 2024 and co-authored a separate research paper to be reviewed by the Science of the Total Environment Journal

- Completed an independent case study about three atmospheric rivers that struck the United States west coast during the winter of 2022/2023- Extracted satellite imagery from the NOAA database using Python code and analyzed surface and upper level moisture, wind, and pressure maps generated on the NOAA Physical Science Laboratory NCEP/NCAR reanalysis webpage- Enhanced written and oral scientific communication skills through the constructions of a written research paper and geoscience capstone presentation
