Responsible for the unit which delivers Academic Representation, Democracy, Campaigns, Governance, Student Representation and Research. As unit head I am a line manager and budget holder.I have;- Reviewed the Universities processes for academic representation leading to a report being approved by the University. This provided a platform for a number of successful University projects including Students as Change Agents, the Teaching Awards and the Shadowing scheme. - Doubled our sabbatical election turnout to 35% with participation higher than local council elections. - Moved our decision making processes online leading to every democratic record being broken. This includes a referenda with 2441 votes and a AGM with almost 1000 student votes. Over 45% of the student body voted in 12/13- Created and delivered the Exeter Teaching Awards for four years. These are now the largest in the sector with over 2400 nominations in 2013.- Increased annual unit income from £500 to over £30,000.- Overseen the research and development of the Students' Guild Visions for Education.- Supported analysis and recommendations using the NSS, PTES, PRES and ISB.- Created an innovative system for monitoring the performance of governance through traffic lighting. - Carryed out two rewrites of our governing documents. One in response to the 2006 charities act and one as a result of our incorporation in 2010.- Successfully managed and developed 7 permanent members of staff as well as numerous casual staff- Provided operational advice and support to our annual celebration of international diversity, Diversity Week.- Introduced an organisation wide approach to campaigns based on a standardised template. This has played a part in our successful campaigns to stop council plans to turn off street lighting, reducing HMO restrictions and to introduce conflict free mineral policies in the Guild, University and NUS.- Provided support and training to thousands of students.
