I am a sculptor with over forty years of experience and professional accomplishments. The range of work includes traditional and abstract figurative sculpture in a variety of styles and media. Examples of traditional sculpture in portraiture are in The Hall of Famous Missourians located in the Missouri State Capitol Building. I was selected to create the first portrait bust in bronze, Samuel Langhorne Clemens ( Mark Twain ), and have created twenty seven more in the series. An example of abstract sculpture is a wall relief, “Healing Flow”, for the Marley Education Center, Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Syracuse, New York. The sculpture was commissioned by the Edgewater Companies, Syracuse, New York, and fabricated at Hatfield Sculpture Fabrications, Poughkeepsie, New York. It was fabricated from stainless steel and bronze tubing with a finished diameter of 12 feet (144 inches). Since the piece was commissioned for a yet to be completed building, close collaboration with the architects and engineers and the fabricators was essential for the successful design and installation of the sculpture. While the traditional and abstract figurative sculpture receive major emphasis, I enjoy and welcome the opportunity to create sculpture in a wide range of styles, scale, and media for both indoor and outdoor environments, including garden, fountains, and for public and private commissions. Whether figurative or abstract, my work is driven by the desire to express the qualities and essence of the character, movement, and energy of life. My accomplishments in the commission/client specific arena exhibit an intentionally chosen diversity. This diversity is a strength that allows me to create in a wide range of concepts and media. With client or site specific work I prefer to establish a dialogue and collaborate with the architect/designer/client to create the desired visual effect.Specialties: Fine art, abstract and representational sculpture with skills in clay and resin modeling; mold-making; bronze, resin, and gypsum casting; and fabrication. Additional and ongoing experience in painting, collage, and drawing.
