I'm now on the full-time faculty of Parami University, working with students in Myanmar and across the Open Society University Network.

I'm delighted to be working again with Parami University in Myanmar, delivering free courses to students in what are exceptionally difficult times. I'm teaching a range of courses in writing and philosophy, including Storytelling for Social Change, and Human Nature: A Cross-Cultural Approach.

I am co-director of Wind&Bones, a project that works at the meeting places of writing, creativity and social justice. We've run education projects in Myanmar where we also worked training everyone from journalists to activists to former political prisoners. We've run projects in Greece, Bulgaria, Taiwan, Indonesia and the UK. We're currently in Sofia.

I am a freelance writer, represented by the brilliant Emma Finn at C+W agency in London. My next book "Hello Stranger" is due to be published by Granta Books in 2021. Rights have already been sold to Germany and Korea.

Between the middle of last year, and this year, I have been working as content consultant for Dorling Kindersley's book "Philosophers: Their Lives and Works", working on internationalising the content of the book, and also writing a number of chapters on philosophers from Ibn Sina to Zhu Xi.

Between January and June 2017, I was in Yangon where I was one of the founding faculty of the Parami Institute in Yangon. I worked on the Parami Leadership Programme where I taught a course on Humanities / Global Cultures, drawing on philosophy, anthropology, history, art and literature.

I worked at DMU first as a Lecturer in Creative Writing, then as a Senior Lecturer, and finally as Reader in Writing and Creativity. At DMU, I was involved in teaching at BA and MA level, as well as PhD supervision. At DMU, I set up the independent Creative Writing Research Group, as well as an informal East-West Salon, for the study of cross-cultural.

Between 2015 and 2016, I was visiting associate professor at Sichuan University in the College of Literature and Journalism. I taught graduate classes in literary theory, as well as undergraduate classes in literature and language.

Between 1994 and 1995, I undertook research in the Tanimbar Islands of Indonesia, based at the Universitas Pattimura in Ambon. The project, which was on contemporary Tanimbarese art and identity, was conducted under the auspices of LIPI, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences.
