Here in the Sensory Evaluation Center, I spend my time working on both large company brand name products to graduate students' theses. My job involves the meticulous and careful preparation of samples and then the ability to correctly serve these samples to the participants. In a sensory lab, it is crucial to keep all samples uniform and refrain from as much outside impact on the volunteers/panelists as possible, so it is imperative that I do my job correctly for accurate data. It provides excellent lab and sensory science experience as I am always learning something new every moment I walk into work.

Here at Ardent Mills' premier quinoa processing and packing facility, I spent my summer working closely with the plant team and manager assisting with the implementation of improvements to the efficiencies and work life of the plant. Some of my projects included center-lining the equipment within the cleaning house and creating both OPLs and SOPs for multiple processes all throughout the plant. Due to the plant's compact size, I received a wealth of information and lessons throughout my time here working with Shipping & Receiving with delivering products, assisting maintenance with work in the cleaning house to have a more intimate knowledge of the equipment, and even working all the way up in the QC lab, running quality tests on our product. It was a fantastic plant learning experience and a great way to spend my summer in the pursuit of education in the field, I gained invaluable experience here.
