Chairman of the Department of Physiology, Professsor of the departments of Physiology and Neuroscience. Member of the Advisory Board of the School of Medicine, Committee Chairman, Professorial Promotions, leader of $13 M renovations program for the basic sciences, member of the Basic Science Research Institute. Departmental responsibilities included graduate training in Physiology and Biophysics, presentation of the first year course in Organ Systems Physiology.

Joined the faculty as Assistant Professor following Fellowship in Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, progressing through faculty ranks to Professor. Research focus in molecular neurobiology, the protein chemistry, biophysics and molecular biology of ion channels. Research group of 18; director of a 6-lab Program Project Grant on ion channel biology; Co-Director of the Yale University Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program, a graduate program supporting neuroscience faculty University-wide. In 1992 I left this position to become Chairman of Physiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
