Avocat at the Paris bar and the Lawyer of the Supreme Court of Queensland (Australia), William Ahern is counsel in the international arbitration practice of the Paris office.He has acted as counsel for states, investors and companies in numerous international arbitrations conducted under the ICSID, ICC, UNCITRAL, LMAA and SIAC rules.William represents clients in arbitrations brought pursuant to contracts, investment treaties and domestic legislation. He has particular experience in investor-State disputes, having acted as counsel in over 12 investor-state arbitrations involving parties from Europe, Africa, Asia, North America and the Middle East and spanning a wide variety of sectors. William also represents clients in human rights litigation, provides advice of international sanctions, business and human rights and the recognition and enforcement of international arbitration awards in various jurisdictions.Prior to joining Mayer Brown, William clerked for a Judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia and trained and qualified as lawyer in the administrative law department of a large Australian law firm.In addition to his native English, William is fluent in French.
