Lead engineer and supervisor for the Process Safety Management Group, performing Hazard Evaluations on equipment and processes.Integral part of a highly successful safety management team. Team successes included:• Repeatedly achieving periods of over a million man-hours without a lost time injury. This included an amazing run with over 16 million man-hours without a lost time injury. Only 15 companies have ever attained this feat since OSHA began requiring occupational illness and injury recordkeeping in 1971.• Attaining and then maintaining “Star” status in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). This is the highest level of recognition for excellence within the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program.Chosen as one of the U.S. representatives to work with Russian federation on an evaluation of the safety of their proposed systems to destroy their chemical weapon stockpile.

Served as a missile officer in the Ordnance Corps; including time as a company commander of the missile maintenance company with the 101st Airborne Division. Also worked in Research and Development, serving as a Project Manager in the development of a new artillery weapon. There were two events that have had a major impact on my continuing career. First, I had a soldier severely injured, and that caused me to first volunteer to work with the Employee Safety Committee (becoming the chairperson) and then pursue a career in the field (obtaining accreditation as a Certified Safety Professional and a career supervising other safety professionals). Second, while living in the Caribbean, the island I was on was struck by a hurricane. I became the senior officer on the night shift for the U.S. Army's Emergency Operations Center; coordinating with FEMA and local government officials coordinating disaster relief efforts. I enjoyed the challenges in this area so much that it led me to pursue a Masters in Public Safety with a specialty of Emergency Management.
