Scientist with extensive industrial experience in project management, intellectual property, bioinformatics, analytical chemistry, genomics, metagenomics, biochemistry, and molecular biology. While earning my Ph.D., I worked at the Energy Biosciences Institute in the Industrial Biotechnology area. My thesis focused on oxidative degradation of cellulose by filamentous fungi, specifically the mechanistic enzymology of polysaccharide monooxygenases. After graduating, I moved to Dow Chemical and worked on portable nucleic acid diagnostics technologies for field applications. In 2013, I moved to Dow AgroSciences and worked on early phase Agronomic Trait discovery projects for corn. From 2015-2021 I worked as a Research Scientist at Corteva on early phase insect resistance trait discovery projects for corn and soybeans. In addition to my work as a research scientist, I also enjoy promoting biotechnology education and research to young people and non-professionals. In 2015, I founded The Great Lakes Biotech Academy to make biotechnology research more accessible to young people in Central Indiana, principally focusing on hands-on biotechnology workshops for high schoolers and DIY bio experiments. I have also regularly participated in the BioBuilder organization as a mentor to high schoolers performing biotech research projects.
