Learning & Access Curator/Assistant
CurrentOverviewI facilitate museum learning and public engagement to help individuals and groups engage with their heritage.I am passionate about connecting people through museum experiences which enrich lives. Engaging communities in dialogue, validating their right to ‘have a voice’ by determining content development. ExperienceI facilitate focused workshops to curriculum for excellence standards, modeling content through reflection and participant evaluation. Examples: Natural and Social History, Art (practical & appreciation), World Religions, Social Justice and Citizenship.Complimentarily I use interactive storytelling inspired by museum objects and themes. Here participants co-create narratives bringing new insight from their experience. This works best in informal contexts with special interest or family groups.Across four Glasgow Museum venues; The Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, The St Mungo Museum of Religious Life & Art, The People’s Palace Social History Museum and Scotland Street School Museum. I have eighteen years learning & Access experience working formally and informally with an extremely diverse range of groups, individuals, ages and access requirements. In my curatorial capacity I have worked on a project redisplaying the People’s Palace Ground Floor. I canvassed visitor and community opinion about how to re-frame displays for a 21st Century audience. The wider team and I were keen to balance progressive vision and traditional approaches. Challenging professional practice towards interdisciplinary and community collaboration has been an essential element of my work aided by the 'Our Museum' Paul Hamlyn Foundation Project. More recently I have been involved in developing formal and informal public programmes for Scotland Street School Museum.Since 2017 I have developed community space/temporary exhibition work at Kelvingrove and programming for the Lord Mungo Murray NLHF portrait acquisition.
