On-goingTravis Perkins PLC is one of the largest companies in the UK, with nearly 2,000 outlets across theunited kingdom. When my Keyline branch was being refurbished by the UK store developmentmanager, I was personally asked to assist him across the UK, designing, managing and runningextremely tight budget refurbishments of existing Travis Perkins PLC outlets/stores. To-date I havebeen involved in 16 different projects. The job had so many different challenges and required vari-ous skills, they took at least seven shifts of 12-18 hours and tested me everyday but I loved it, andI am grateful for the experience.

four monthsThis was a very different role than I was used to but it saw me through the summer break and thensome, while I was away from study. I took away a lot from the position, most importantly keepingcalm under pressure.

Three monthsWith nearly 500 branches nationwide, the plumb centre is Wolseley UK's biggest brand. As a salesassociate my responsibilities were to process sales, catch up on quotes and prices with online andtelephone customers. Processing store sales, operating a forklift as well as running the daily safetychecks on the machinery i.e forklift and mechanical door.

One yearKeyline is the UK's leading supplier of civils, heavy building materials and drainage solutions. Mydaily responsibilities and duties include customer services, yard sales, stock control, generatingdeliveries and the loading and unloading of stock.Sales associate

My role with Orridge is a counter- the workforce behind an accurate stocktake. I have worked inalmost every town and city in Scotland, as well as most of the mid to northern England. After myfirst three months I progressed right to the top of both the monthly and annual counter league forScotland. The way each company wishes their stocktake to run is different but the basics are tostart on the shop floor and count every piece of stock for sale using a scanner as quickly and asaccurately as possible, then proceed to the stockroom and/or warehouse. My role as supervisor isdepending on the size of the store, for example the smallest I have coordinated is two people andthe biggest is ninety.

Six monthsMy role with Barnardos was sales assistant/drivers porter in the furniture store. This was a volun-tary role in summer between college years to get work experience for when I had finished my edu-cation. I learned basic till and customer sales experience, I then took over the position for deliver-ing and collecting donated stock.
