Staff Applied Scientist, Av Remote Platform, Ai/Robotics
In this role I led development (from prototype to deployment) of AVT, a novel multi-path transport engine for bonding LTE networks into a single virtual link - based on QUIC protocol.AVT replaced our existing ipsec vpn and legacy multipath engine (written in c / glib). The rollout of AVT led to ~100ms baseline latency improvement for all traffic, as well as a 10x improvement in reliability of network paths active during a drive. Our service is pure rust and leveraged tokio, rust-tun, quinn-rs, which allowed us to share a single codebase between our embedded telematics module and our kubernetes cloud-native endpoints.
Senior Ml/Robotics Engineer Ii - Remote Assistance
Led design of our on-vehicle video streaming stack:- Two custom camera integrations for hw h264 encoding, leveraging gstreamer with a custom plugin for packetization over the on-vehicle network- Developed software encoding ROS node for h264 in C++ (libx264)- Integration of GStreamer into master ROS node that handles webrtc streaming, signaling, bandwidth estimation and allocation- Video Stream to a custom SFU written in go w/ pion webrtc, and ultimately to our remote-assistance and customer service tooling
Business Owner
Tandem helps hybrid and remote teams unlock serendipity with a powerful virtual office. My partners and I led a corporate restructuring to transition the company from a venture-backed hypergrowth play into a lean and profitable small business.

Lead System Engineer
Embedded RTC Video in Rust/Gstreamer- Led development of a video camera viewing interface for crane operators. The application interfaces with SDI cameras (Blackmagic 4k over SDI pci-e capture card) as well as RTP/RTSP IP cameras. The application is built on top of the GStreamer media framework in Python3 and Rust. - Led development of a live streaming web application using Janus & WebRTC. We relayed video from the crane application over LTE with 1 second or less of latency from construction site to browser. - Led development of autoscaling transcoding infrastructure on top of Kubernetes / GKE for video archive with the ability to generate timelapses of many hours of footage- Prototyped a custom 4k 60fps IP Camera built with GStreamer on the NVIDIA Jetson camera platform with a Sony IMX266 sensor- Prototyped a react-native application that could consume RTP video using GStreamer.framework
Lead Software Architect
- Led design of event sourced data engine driving a graph database query layer (golang, dgraph.io)- Developed graph search algorithm for network products that can return a set of network options and latency between two datecenters (within 100-300ms)- Migrated cloud infrastructure to Docker and Kubernetes
Principal Engineer - Software (Streaming Data Platform & Go Backend)
Primary focus is the Sproutling Wearable Baby monitor- Led development of a scalable Streaming Data Platform (using mqtt, kafka, and flink) targeting 3 billion events / day- Responsible for launching multiple prototype algorithms into production by porting them from python/sklearn to scala & flink- Ported legacy rails app to Golang (adopted microservices pattern)

Ceo & Founder
Design and development of Bluetooth Low Energy based development tools and connected devicesC++ Firmware development for SoC / RF platforms (nrf51822, stm32, atmega32u4, etc...)Design and development of Bluetooth Low Energy connected mobile applications (iOS/Android)Manage small-scale manufacturing of a consumer productProposals and Sales for contract business during bootstrappingAt lava, I led our Product and Engineering efforts as well as our marketing efforts on our consumer product ION. We started early on investing our time in Bluetooth Low Energy devices and development tools. We designed our own internal hardware prototyping platform (Ember/Torch). Using our platform, we were able to tinker and design connected devices with rapid speed and ease. Because we were able to rapidly prototype product ideas, we were able to just "play" with the technology to find interesting things to do with it. One of these projects was a App controlled light. The feedback around our light project was very positive, and it was clear we needed to take that idea further. We began iterating on the idea of a "smart lamp," and over the course of 9 months and 3 full integration prototypes later, we launched ION to the public. Taking a product from idea, to prototype, through manufacturing, to marketing, and finally into a customers hands was the most interesting and involved learning experience I could've asked for. I really enjoy all aspects of the product development lifecycle, and at lava we left no part of that lifecycle out.
Lead Android Developer (Contract)
Built the Android version of EvilApplesIntegrated Socket.IO based communication layer talking to game serverBuilt custom particle effects engine Custom views/animations built on-top of the android layout systemLead Development from launch until ~850k users
