Good office culture, reasonable compensation, no shortage of work hours and multiple opportunities for acquiring new skills. The company has a small regional presence. So, it has a nice mix of current technology while also being small enough to provide lots of work variety. Also, it's location is close to home.

When I felt I needed a career supercharge, I found CTG was a good company for matching assignment to skills while broadening my experience. They kept my weeks full and gave me a good assignment working with current enterprise level equipment. Best of all, they rewarded experience and didn't micro-manage. For contract assignments, I highly recommend them.

Wearing many hats kept the work interesting and working with nice people made all the difference. There were multiple opportunities to turn junk into gold. It was a good place to lose a few years by being a big fish in a small pond.

I formed a company to sell a line of telecommunications products from a company that is now known as T-Mobile plus another company formerly known as Nextel. At the time, the phone technology looked promising, location seemed good and the time seemed right. As time went on, a series of unexpected problems killed the business before the operation could adapt. Although the location ultimately lost more than it made, I did learn a lot about the business world.

I created front-end screens and business objects with the goal of increasing end user efficiency. As a result, I developed experience in Visual Basic, MS-Office, Crystal Reports, software packaging tools and help-file software. Since leaving, I noticed the location was boarded up and has remained that way for quite some time. Maybe everyone transitioned to working at home? Regardless, I walked away with a nice set of skills which I try to keep current. Instead of using VB5, I've changed to C#. Instead of MS-Access objects, I query MS-SQL. Instead of Attachemate I use AutoHotkey and Powershell. Also, just in case I ever decide to work in the industry again, I welcome my future A.I. Overlords. Show less
