My name is William Paul Baker, I’m a born bilingual Puerto Rican, and I’m excited to move my young career forward. My education at UTSA was very robust and challenging, and my short work history confirmed that it equipped me with what I need to succeed in the modern industry. At UTSA, they did not just check my knowledge, but my ability to learn; for our Software Engineering class, which was a graduation requirement, most students, such as myself, had to take the leap from languages like C and Java and Python into web development with very little experience, and roll out a simple, but full product applying knowledge of industry web design and development patterns. My other classes have proven useful as well. At Pronto Analytics, I worked on the back end of deployments of their D4CR natural language processing tool. This built well on my previous experience with an Artificial Intelligence elective based on TensorFlow, as well as Systems Programming and Advanced Systems Programming. At their sister company, Puerto Rico Coffee Hub, I provided consulting on their UI design and storefront layout from my background with Application Programming.Having developed projects by myself, as a team leader, and as a team member, I require little assistance, and prefer to be given a self-contained objective to complete and deliver. After that semester, I was able to develop my own data analysis web app on a much more complex level over Node, and AWS, which I had never used before. A particular point of pride would be the complicated nested queries my program performed using Python and SQL on the large scale data sets (ranging from low gigabytes up to 95 for the set of sets), which I wrote by hand. Running into networking bugs I did not understand as well as unforeseen hurdles, such as the COVID I contracted when other people were forming groups, and using solutions both “brilliant” and “brute force” to resolve them on schedule, posed a tremendous challenge that I am proud to say I rose to.I strive to write self-documenting code that is easy to refactor with minimal unexpected behavior, and figuring out the most elegant and efficient way to get it all done is something I take pride in. I excel in explaining my code to other people and parsing other people’s code. Sketching out new functions is perhaps my favorite part of the process.Across MongoDB, SQL, C#, C, Java, .NET, JavaScript, Python, Assembly, and more, I will require little training or oversight to fulfill my obligations. Do consider me for the role.Paul
