Operates, repairs, and performs maintenance on internal combustion engines, main propulsion machinery, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, gas turbine engines, and shipboard auxiliary equipment; stands watch on auxiliary boilers. Aligns and operates drain systems, machinery cooling water systems, oil systems, and purifier systems; aligns steam systems; operates pumps; aligns, operates, and secures internal combustion engines, steam distilling plants, compressed air systems, refrigeration and air conditioning systems operates and maintains auxiliary boilers; maintains tools; overhauls valves; performs preventive maintenance on auxiliary equipment, main propulsion equipment, transmissions, drive shafts; fabricates and fits tubing and flexible hose assemblies; monitors electrical charging and regulating systems; operates and maintains hydraulic equipment; completes maintenance data system forms; uses blueprints,drawings, and manuals; tests boiler water and feed water. Operates lube oil service, fill and storage systems; performs prestart inspections; aligns pump driving units; overhauls air compressors, internal combustionengines, pumps, refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, transmissions and driveshafts; repairs valves and packing glands; tests and recharges refrigeration and air conditioning systems; tests andrepairs piping systems; tests, cleans, inspects, and repairs or replaces heat exchangers; troubleshoots and repairsauxiliary equipment, internal combustion engines, and distilling plants;adjusts valves, injectors, control racks, governor, and governorcontrol linkages on diesel engines; inspects, adjusts and test-runs diesel and gasoline engines; operates and troubleshoots internalcombustion engine blowers and turbochargers; operates an engine lathe; adjusts and repairs refrigeration automatic controls. Conducts quality assurance inspections; supervises maintenance activities; prepares planned maintenance schedules.

Responsible for remaining in compliance with ABS inspections and Coast Guard rules andregulations• Sole responsibility for maintaining main and auxiliary engines, boilers, compressors,generators, hydraulic and electrical systems to allow extended operations away from supportfacilities• Coordinated equipment and spares procurement, inspection and storage of inventory• Establish preventive and predictive maintenance program• Comprehensive watch-keeping rounds and emergency preparedness drills
