As a lobbyist and consultant on the McAlvey Merchant & Associates team, I provide legislative consulting for clients across a range of industries, with a focus in Conservation (Hunting, Fishing, Recreation and Land Management), Advertising Health Care, Insurance and Financial Services, and Municipal law. I am always been eager to learn something new and productive. In this recent role, I am responsible for delivering consultancy to various aspects regarding State of Michigan advocacy, including strategy development as well as coalition-building, education, and profile-building. I explain and suggest client responses to state legislations and authorizations while ensuring compliance with existing state regulations. Responsible for planning and developing strategies for implementation of the Regional Public Policy Directives adopted at the 2008 Regional Policy Conference, in addition to building regional coalitions and collaborations with our state-wide partners. In my short tenure I developed the framework and strategy, and organizational structure for an every two year Public Policy Forum and ongoing pursuit of legislative initiatives aimed at achieving the Directives.

Responsible for all financial reporting functions, forecasting, annual budgeting and the credit and collection processes of a $15 million advertising sales entity. Month end financial reporting responsibilities included: preparation of close reports, monthly general ledger journal entries and the compilation of the variance analysis.

As a Small Business Owner, I was responsible for all areas of the business including operations, finance, marketing, brand management, as well as, developing and implementing strategic plans aimed at growing a successful retail sporting goods outlet. In the six years for which I owned and operated North Kent Cyclery, I profitably increased revenue three-fold, successfully introduced 4 premium product lines to the marketplace, achieved Top 100 Dealer status with three national brands and lead the effort to create two local advocacy organizations.
