I have been delivering software tools that help regulators and industry make informed decisions about medical product safety for more than thirty years. In my role at Commonwealth Informatics I had the extraordinary opportunity to define the next generation of signal management software in the form of the Commonwealth Vigilance Workbench. The Workbench integrates signal detection results from all relevant sources including EudraVigilance. The Workbench supports safety evaluators in efficiently reviewing statistical alerts, assessing signals, documenting the scientific evaluation, and tracking the work performed. The workbench provides an agile platform for responding to advances in signal detection guidance such as the EMA guidance on subgroups and methods.I have been privileged to work with innovators within regulatory agencies, industry, and academic research groups over many years and to play my part in bringing innovative statistical methods and proven software engineering techniques together to deliver reliable efficient systems. Prior to Commonwealth Informatics, I held a series of director-level positions at Lincoln Technologies, Phase Forward, and Oracle contributing to the success of the Empirica Signal and Empirica Topics software. Earlier in my career I worked on pioneering systems for pharmacovigilance case processing (Clintrace), clinical data management discrepancy resolution (Clintrial Resolve), medical coding (Clintrial Classify), and one of the earliest time-oriented data management systems for clinical trials (the NIH-funded CLINFO system). I also had an enjoyable diversion into applied mathematics and optimization in Australia delivering systems for applications such as wool auctioning, rice milling, and environmental monitoring.
