I was a National Board Certified Middle Childhood Generalist who spent 29 years teaching in Wake County's (NC) elementary and middle schools. While the majority of that time was spent teaching integrated language arts and social studies classes, I've also spent about ten years teaching middle grades science.
I've spent the past seven years blogging about issues ranging from the challenges of recruiting teachers to high needs schools and the flaws in important educational policy decisions to using technology to engage students and creating collaborative communities of learners in schools. I've also provided social media guidance and advice to other Center for.
For two years, I wrote a regular column on teaching with technology for ASCD's Educational Leadership magazine. Columns tackled a range of different topics, working to introduce educators to new tools and/or ideas connected to the changing nature of teaching and learning in the 21st Century.
