Willow Home School provides outdoor education programming for youth and families. Developed in response to the lack of safe, in-person, educational opportunities for students during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Achieved full class participation numbers within a month of launching.

Manage multi-night outdoor experiential learning programs in Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Santa Barbra, Big Bear, Escalante National Monument.Program sizes range from 15-250 participants for 2-7 nights, where I manage a team of 2-22 Facilitators. Respond to incidents that may include illness and injury, consulting our physician if needed.Train and supervise Facilitators on risk management, time management, and lessons for each area. Activities include rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, caving, team-building, and astronomy. Certifications: WFR & SPI

Facilitate trail groups of 15 students through multi-night outdoor education programs. I manage risk and time while teaching basic outdoor skills, navigation, local flora and fauna, backcountry cooking, rock climbing skills, geology, astronomy, LNT and camp craft.

AMGA certified SPISet up and manage outdoor climbing sites and high ropes courses. Train staff in PLUS belaying, use of belay team, proper gear fit, C.R.A.S.H safety check, and simple coaching for climbing. Build anchors for top-rope bottom-managed climbing sites in Joshua Tree, using natural anchors. Float at the site managing the big-picture risk and time management. Set up dynamically belayed High Ropes courses at Residential camps using industry standards techniques.

Set up and facilitate climbing at Indoor and Outdoor Climbing sites

Instruct on kayak, SUP, rock climbing, camping, hiking, surfing, and mountain biking trips for San Diego Youth.

We take clients out on guided tours of the La Jolla Sea Caves, where we swim the kayaks into the clam cave. The La Jolla Cove area is an ecological preserve so there is an amazing amount of wildlife, such as; garibaldi, leopard sharks, crabs, octopus, seals, pelicans, dolphins, and the crowd favorite the sea lion. This preserve is the second most biodiverse in California, second only to Monterey Bay. On the tour we will see wildlife and talk about the amazing local history and science of the La Jolla area.

In Dr. Ryan McGorty's Lab I studied the capillary waves at the interface of a fluid-fluid colloidal mixture. After creating and pipetting a sample onto a microscope slide, I take a series of about 5000 images at about 20 to 40 fps. I then analyze these images using a Fourier transform code that we wrote utilizing a technique called differential dynamic microscopy (DDM). This allows us to fit the autocorrelation function to our model and get the dynamics of the interfacial region. I worked in Python to analyze and make plots and figures, in addition we sometimes utilized jupyter for ipython implementation. I also worked extensively with the microscope and camera software.

I tutored lower division physics to undergraduates. I take a concept driven approach to teaching, going over problem solving skills in general is my first priority. I want people to come away with an foundational understanding from which they can learn more from because they will have the tools to make new connections themselves. This is fundamental to all things, once you have some self proficiency, your ability to grow increases tenfold.

Taught swim lessons to children ages 2-4 at all different skill levels.

Lifeguarding has given me a good idea how to handle stressful situations with risk management and consumer service.

While working under the mentorship of Dr. Daniel Sheehan, I did a multitude of projects. Using a simple microscope I made a map of a microchip so that it could be tested more efficiently by the engineers when sent out for testing. I worked extensively with high vacuum equipment and swagelok fittings. We used Ion gauges, cold cathode gauges, convection gauges. In addition I designed and created a gas intake and reservoir system that was high vacuum tight. I acquired data on a mass spectrometer to analyze the residual gas coming off the surfaces in the gas surface reactions we were testing. We also had extensive use of thermocouples to take temperature readings throughout the ultra high vacuum vessel.
