About William Howe

William Howe is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Texas Tech University, where he teaches and conducts research on organizational communication. He has a PhD in Organizational Communication from the University of Oklahoma and over 10 years of academic experience in communication studies.His research interests include how occupational identity is formed, adopted, and communicated by members of high reliability organizations, such as the military, police, and firefighters. He also explores intercultural communication and game studies. He has published 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and 6 book chapters, and presented over 40 times at international, national, and regional conferences. He has received multiple awards and honors, including the Master’s Thesis of the Year by the National Communication Association and the Stanley L. Saxton Applied Research Award by the Carl Couch Center for Social and Internet Research.William is passionate about bridging the gap between theory and practice, and applying his knowledge and skills to real-world problems and contexts. He draws on his own experience as a former combat medic in the U.S. Army, who deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom, to inform his research and teaching. He aims to advance the understanding and improvement of organizational communication in high-risk and high-stress environments. He is also committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment for his students and colleagues.
