Michael Parkinson is a music educator, conductor/performer, & clinician in metro Kansas City, and a KHS America Education Artist and XO Professional Brass Artist. He is director of the TRINITY Jazz Ensemble, an ecumenical group affiliated with Old Mission United Methodist Church, a performer-clinician for the Kansas Touring Arts Program, and Nottelmann Music. Mike is Coordinator of the Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors-Jamey Aebersold Clinic-Concert Series. He served as music administrator at Middle Tennessee State University, Ohio University and Webster University, Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and taught at Case Western Reserve University, and Furman University. Mike has appeared at festivals, conferences and schools internationally as a performer, conductor, clinician and adjudicator. He toured China in 2017 & 2018 with the MTSU Jazztet and Artistic Director of the International Summer Jazz Academy in Poland for which he was named Amicus Poloniae by the Republic of Poland. He received the Jess Cole Award from the Missouri Jazz Educators Association, he is a Sigma Alpha Iota Friend of the Arts, and is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. Mike has performed with artists such as Bob Brookmeyer, Gary Foster, Reggie Thomas, and Phil Woods, and Polish artists Joachim Mencel, Janusz Muniak, Wlodek Pawlik, and Dominik Wania. His experience includes shows (George Burns, Glen Campbell, Rosemary Clooney, the Manhattan Transfer) and recordings (Michelle Himmell, Spirit of Kansas City Orchestra, St. Thomas, and Kirby Shaw), He has worked with composers including Robert Cooper, Halim El-Dabh, Donald Erb, Paul Osterfield, and Mark Phillips,A Tennessee native, Mike holds degrees from Cincinnati (DMA/Conducting), Kent State (MM/Trumpet), and North Texas (BM/Music Education). He studied trumpet with Frank Brown, John Haynie, Harry Herforth,, Ray Kotwica, and Marie Speziale; conducting with Kelly Hale, Donald Hunsberger, Richard Jacoby, David Kuehn, and Terry Milligan.
