About William Navarrete Moreno

Growing up the son of Mexican immigrants in Colorado, William Navarrete Moreno witnessed firsthand the toll systemic inequalities take on marginalized communities. A rising junior at the University of Colorado Denver with double minors in Biology and Cognitive Behavioral Neuroscience, he is pursuing a degree in public health to realize his profound commitment to achieving health equity among marginalized populations and systemic changes in the American healthcare system.At the CU Anschutz, William collaborates on projects within the Department of Family Medicine, focusing on the formation of integrative care models and exploring the impact of allostatic load among Hispanic populations. His research at CU Denver further examined the psychophysiological responses to anti-immigrant rhetoric among university students, highlighting the significant mental and physical health impacts of a hostile sociopolitical environment.As a FACETS Scholar at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, William engaged in pioneering research under the supervision of Ankur Pandya aimed at understanding the biopsychosocial mechanisms by which racism affects physiological health outcomes, and by proxy, policy implications for which racism should be addressed. In addition to his research, William has founded and directs TheCHANGEproject, a non-profit organization committed to dismantling health disparities through education, advocacy, and grassroots organizing within affected communities. William is also a volunteer Clinic Manager at the DAWN Clinic, a free clinic serving underserved populations. Within his university, he has founded CU CHANGE, a health equity student organization with more than seventy members.William’s advocacy extends to the national and state stage through his role on the Youth Advisory Board at Young Invincibles. Through this role, he has aided in the passage of a myriad of legislation in Colorado. Academically, his dedication to coursework and community has been recognized through numerous awards and honors, including the People's Choice Award for a presentation on the Psychophysiology of Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric. William was named a 2024 Obama-Chesky Voyager , a 2023 MARC scholar by the National Institutes of General Medical Sciences, and a 2022 Boettcher Scholar.
