The National Guard is only a part-time position. I report for duty only one weekend a month so I am available and eager to have a full-time position in my field of mechanical engineering. I am a member of the Infantry division. I chose this path because it is the toughest training regime in the Army. I successfully underwent 14 weeks of intensive and grueling training in Fort Benning, Georgia. The experience taught me the importance of teamwork, and gave me an opportunity to work alongside people of different nationalities and background. It also made me more disciplined in my work and personal habits.

I was the lead instructor of the camp’s Leader in Training program. The role required me to design multiple programs focusing on core leadership skills, and understanding group dynamics while also working with young teens on an individual level. It required a good deal of design and planning of activities, and a lot of flexibility and instruction.

I began working as an operator and worked my way through the company, learning every aspect of manufacturing. Within a month I was working as a design engineer and project engineer. I was in charge of product design as well as project management, including interacting with customers. I was involved on the shop floor, troubleshooting problems and designing and implementing solutions.

East Rochester, Ny

I managed two commercial pools that often required trouble shooting as well as routine maintenance. I wrote a comprehensive technical operations procedure manual for the pools that is followed at the facility today. I was responsible for the safety of swimmers at the pool and assisted in teaching swim lessons. I also initiated and completed the construction of a pavilion and playground equipment, and fixed and maintained various camp vehicles and equipment.

My primary responsibility was the safety of the swimmers. In addition, I provided maintenance and repair of the swimming pool and hot tub, including trouble shooting and fixing the heating and cooling systems. This position - as well as the summers I worked as a lifeguard at a beach - involved a lot of communication with the public. I worked for LA Fitness during my winter and spring breaks from college.

As a Red Cross certified lifeguard, I was in charge of the safety of the camp's many young swimmers. I also taught swimming lessons. As assistant maintenance manager, I was responsible for the design and construction of a pavilion and playground equipment. Additionally, I provided maintenance and repair of golf carts, tractors, and other equipment at the camp.

I was in charge of guarding a waterfront at a public park and the town pool. Often, I was the sole lifeguard at the waterfront. The responsibilities included opening and closing the beach and renting boats. I saved the lives of six people in one summer at the waterfront. Many times after my shift at the waterfront ended, I would go directly to the town pool to lifeguard for a second shift.

I was in charge of keeping the public pool and the people in it safe. I was also in charge of finding a replacement if I couldn’t make it to my shift.
