My role involved supporting the team with a range of tasks, including research, data analysis, and report writing. I was able to contribute to several projects, including assisting with a review of local planning policy and helping to identify potential development sites.

By conducting research on the "Neighbourhood Plan Progress and Local Planning Authority Support in North West England Royal," I honed my critical analysis skills. Over the course of eight months, my team and I conducted a thorough evaluation of local planning policy and the development of neighbourhood plans in the North West region. The published report and accompanying data sets are available upon request, and showcase our findings and insights.

My main focus was on assisting with the creation of Sefton's Local Plan, where I was actively involved in the consultation, modification, and draft stages of the council's strategic plan. Through this experience, I was able to process public feedback and develop draft changes, as well as create a ‘Manual for Validating Planning Applications’ to support new planning assistants. I also gained hands-on experience with both major and minor planning applications, and spent time with development enforcement, providing me with tangible experience of planning policy in action. This experience allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the daily routine of a Local Plans team and how they contribute to the overall planning process.
