I worked in the kitchen as both a line cook and prep cook at a high class golf resort/community. This role for me was all about learning, I was the most inexperienced person in the kitchen but I honestly enjoyed that as I was able to learn so much from all of the people that I met. Working in an environment such as a high quality restaurant allowed me to expand and learn many skills such as a very important one for my former position, time management. In order to have a proper dinner service I needed to budget and plan my time properly on each of the different elements of prep. and make sure my station was fully prepared for a successful night. One of the other important lessons that was reaffirmed by my having this position is that, no matter how much you know about a particular subject, there is always someone who knows more than you. I believe that this is important because living life with an open mind can allow you to continually grow and keep learning through life.

This is the restaurant is where I had my first job! I started out in the dish pit doing what many kids do when they are at the age I was when I started there (the stuff no one else wants to do). Over time I eventually worked my way up into the kitchen and learned as much as I possibly could, eventually mastering all of the different stations we had in the restaurant. Once I showed that I had the knowledge and capability to do all the work I was given and then some, I was promoted to the Shift Leader position making it so that I had the authority to help coordinate the kitchen and help the managers whenever they needed help. I also from time to time had to use that authority to make sure that certain co-workers were staying on task and following all of the proper procedures for the restaurant such as; order of operations, maintenance/storage processes, safety rules, storage requirements and more.
