Hyperspectral technology combines imaging and spectroscopy; a hyperspectral data cube is an image that contains a continuous spectrum at each spatial pixel. Hyperspectral imaging is used in a very wide variety of applications including precision agriculture, food inspection, mining, medicine, and many more.

At Argonne National Laboratory, I am helped establish a new research program that uses a combination of synchrotron x-ray methods and vibrational sum frequency generation (VSFG) spectroscopy to study interfaces relevant to the chemical separation of heavy elements. I brought subject-matter expertise in nonlinear vibrational spectroscopy (as well as ultrafast lasers and optics). Vibrational spectroscopy is not usually used in heavy metal separation research; this unique approach will added fresh perspective to the study of these important systems.
