HLB International is the 8th largest global accountancy network (International Accounting Bulletin, 2024). As a Corporate Advisory Manager in the Sydney office, I provide M&A, Due Diligence and Valuation advisory services to a diverse client base of entrepreneurial leaders, investors and founders.

As a Manager in BDO’s leading mid market M&A team, I was responsible for managing a range of projects and owning the day-to-day client relationships. This included working closely with the partner on each project as well as coaching and reviewing the work of assistant managers and executives in my team. I was also actively involved in targeting new clients and delivering pitches, as well as networking with potential referrers including lawyers and bankers.

In my role as an M&A Assistant Manager, I worked across a number of sell-side transactions responsible for the collation of key data, preparation of deal documents and reports and liaison with lawyers, advisors and clients. Working closely with the manager and RI, I was responsible for the overall project management of my portfolio of audit clients. This involved performing audit work on significant risk areas including leading consultations with audit specialists/ experts, review of junior team members work and building strong and trusted relationships with my clients.

Leading a team of between 2 and 6 junior auditors, I was the primary on-site auditor on a range of clients. This involved solving complex accounting issues, providing coaching and support to colleagues, communicating updates and issues to the manager and RI as well as keeping the client informed of audit status.

An engaging secondment whereby I worked across two sell side transactions as well as assisting on a number of other ad hoc tasks. The transactions I was involved with spanned both a brand fostering company and a supply chain management company, both of whom are well known brands in the UK and internationally. As part of the documents worked on, this included collating and analysing industry statistics, quoted multiples and precedent transactions.

This involved solving complex accounting issues, providing coaching and support to colleagues, communicating updates and issues to the manager and RI as well as keeping the client informed of audit status.
