Working to generate new product lines and cell assay kits to bring to customers to aid in the discovery and validation of epigenetic regulatory factors that may help influence cancer genetics. Currently in the process of validating and launching new cell line-based assay kits that will allow researchers to track and monitor epigenetic events in cells and drug influences of those events.

Adjunct faculty position teaching Biology 161 (Human Anatomy and Physiology I lecture and lab for Freshmen and Sophomore Nursing students), along with Biology 200 Human Biology Anatomy and Physiology I and II for Biology majors) and Cellular and Molecular Biology lecture and labs. Designed and presented lecture and lab material, concurrent with Departmental standards. Administered exams and homework assignments to sufficiently monitor student understanding, as well as modifying the course format where needed to best facilitate learning by students.

Full-time residential counselor for at-risk youth. Maintained structure and supervision for the daily activities and treatment facility environment in the resident quarters. Performed daily tasks such as leading sporting activities, supervising youth on the unit and during outings, as well as assisted youth in problem resolution and gaining skills to avoid future conflict.

Per diem substitute teacher for elementary and middle school teachers. Successfully executed daily lessons plan and provided educational supervision for students in appropriate subjects.

Instructor in Neurology. Worked in the group of Dr. Robert Brown examining mitochondrial and axonal transport alterations in axons of motor neurons expressing various ALS genes using microfluidic devices.

Worked to monitor the tau-tubulin interactions in live neurons in culture and in vivo using Second Harmonic Generation. Utilizing various molecular, microscopic, cell biological, and biochemical techniques to understand the microtubule network and how it's influenced by tau. Using SHG and microfluidic devices, I was able to show a difference between 3 and 4 repeat tau in living neurons and how they interact with the microtubule network in the axon of neurons in culture. I was also able to demonstrate how certain tau mutations found in tauopathies can affect the interaction between tau and the microtubule cytoskeleton and actually make tau bind tighter to the microtubule.

During my graduate student experience I gained experience in a wide variety of techniques. Initially I had experience in making and culturing rat hippocampal slice cultures to be used for patch-clamp experiments. The majority of my work in grad school focused on cell cutlure models utilizing mammalian cell lines to model tau phosphorylation events in various toxic and insulting conditions and how the Wnt signaling pathway could influence that phosphorylation. Some basic techniques included cell culture in sterile envirnoment, gene cloning, and transfection, Western blotting, immunocytochemsitry, autoradiography, ex vivo assays for kinase and phosphatase activities. Also gained extensive experience in generating and characterizing multiple stable cell lines with various selection cassettes.
