I am serving 1700 hours mentoring students in a fourth grade class at PS. 83 in East Harlem through small group work, social emotional learning intervention, and attendance intervention. Six out of twenty students in my class are in NYC seeking asylum with their families from South America and Latin America. I work with them on translating their teacher's instruction, and working with them on learning basic english. I also co-lead an after-school class with 17 fourth graders. We do one hour of homework help, and then one hour of enrichment club, Monday through Friday. The enrichment club lesson plans are created by myself and my fellow City Year coworkers.
