Professionally, I'm a software engineer and a system administrator. Intellectually, I'm a generalist who likes to know about as many subjects as possible, and I have aptitudes in the arts as well as in science and technology.After college I worked at Lockheed Martin for 23 years, developing software and designing/deploying/maintaining networks of Unix workstations for government aerospace/defense programs as well as internal research and development projects.Currently I'm on a voluntary break from work (thank you, Apple stock!) during which I've increased my involvement in my favorite nonprofit, PFLAG.   I developed software in C for a variety of applications including: real-time data acquisition with VxWorks, distributed processing, and live graphics (all for underwater sensors in anti-submarine warfare); user interface development and implementation; and data management (for satellite telemetry). I also set up, configured, documented, and maintained Unix workstations and their networks for both classified and unclassified government programs.
