Ian is one of Australia's most knowledgeable experts on housing and urban issues, having conducted research and provided policy development advice on a wide range of issues for over 25 years.CurrentChair, Affordable Rentals VictoriaAs Executive Director of AHURI, he was focused on evidence-informed policy development, and regularly advised Ministers and senior public servants on the policy implications arising from AHURI research.His incisive knowledge and unique skills have made him an 'in-demand' conference speaker, media commentator and expert facilitator. His valuable insights and deep understanding of the research evidence-base means he is on top of the current thinking in the housing policy arena, and is able to guide the conversation towards effective outcomes. Ian was the Inaugural Chair of the New South Wales Community Housing Industry Council 2019-2021. He was an invited observer to the Ministerial Select Council on Housing and Homelessness and to the Housing Ministers’ Advisory Committee over 15 years. He was a member of the Commonwealth Advisory Committee on Homelessness and Victorian Ministerial Advisory Council on Homelessness, Special Advisor to the Commonwealth Advisory Committee on Social Housing and Housing Assistance, and an invited speaker at the Commonwealth Tax Forum. Prior to his work at AHURI, Ian was a Principal Research Fellow at the Australian Institute of Family Studies and lecturer at RMIT University. He is the author of numerous journal articles and books on housing and urban issues.
