I was also involved in creating a future plan for the Association and a vision for making small stores competitive in the modern retail environment.

The Golden Apple Learning Store earned a role as an industry leader and innovator. In 1979 the store established the concept of a Learning Store - a meeting place for educators and caregivers interested in creative ways to build basic skills in children. Beyond retailing resources for core subjects the Golden Apple emphasized critical thinking resources, art resources, music and children's literature. Over the years the Golden Apple was instrumental in introducing many innovative learning products, establishing trends and leading the industry through monumental changes in both retailing and education.The Golden Apple consistently received several "Best of" awards from Bay Area publications. In addition to their retail offerings The Golden Apple offered supplemental instruction, art classes, events and birthday parties.The Golden Apple was established in San Ramon, CA. In the early 1990's the store had three locations. In 2000 they consolidated into the largest educational resource store in Northern California in Pleasanton CA.The Golden Apple Learning Store is cited on Wikipedia as the 1st Learning Store in the US.
