The goal of the project was to provide students with relevant content on their mobile devices based on their indoor location.In the course of ten weeks over the summer of 2015 and in the following academic semester, I conducted the research and built an iOS app under the supervision of a faculty mentor, who guided me throughout the entire project. The app developed was integrated with a cloud-based database service called Parse and utilized BLE location awareness via iOS' iBeacon protocol to display different content depending on the user's proximity to a given BLE beacon. Content included quizzes, surveys, event sign-in prompts, and web-based embedded views.By the end of the project, I obtained a greater knowledge of iOS app development and the Swift programming language by developing simple apps that utilized foundational iOS elements such as table views, navigation view controllers, core data, and sprite kit. I also gained experience in the following software engineering practices: using documentation and reference guides, APIs, version control, and documenting accomplished work.The research project findings were presented on the SCICU Undergraduate Student/Faculty Research Program Symposium on February, 2016.
