Designed a multi-million-dollar species-focused grants program to address biodiversity decline. Developed new targeted funds for projects to a) investigate and combat wildlife trafficking; b) determine effective ways to communicate about and inspire positive action to conserve species; and c) find and describe species new to science in data poor regions. Updated NGS’s big cat conservation funding strategy using gap analyses and stakeholder consultations. Served as Partnership Lead for USAID’s Wildlife Crime Tech Challenge, managing relations and communications among USAID, NGS, Smithsonian, and TRAFFIC. Provided technical support to environmental project design for USAID Missions in Vietnam and Madagascar. Designed Vietnam’s biodiversity scope of key geographies and target species and drafted the statement of work for illegal wildlife demand reduction interventions. Co-led on USAID Metrics for Combating Wildlife Trafficking Working Group. Served as project co-lead, Reducing Opportunities for Unlawful Transport of Endangered Species. Selected partners and ideas for a facilitated co-design workshop to create and adopt plans for the transportation and logistics sector to eliminate illegal wildlife from their operations. -- As Biodiversity Affinity Group Co-chair, co-organized and spoke in symposium, “Combating wildlife trafficking: communicating, connecting, and evaluating challenges and solutions for policy development and implementation”

Evaluated all biology and conservation applications submitted and translated funded projects into consumable media. Served as Science Lead for National Geographic for the NGS-National Park BioBlitz annual citizen science event. Served as NGS representative to the Clinton Global Initiative’s Partnership to Save Africa’s Elephants. -- Collaborated with 4 National Parks to recruit over 200 scientists, plan >500 inventories, and connect scientists with thousands of students, teachers, and members of the public. -- Co-authored a first authoritative paper on baseline ivory demand in key geographies.
