Climate-KIC Australia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation established as a sister organization to the EU’s EIT Climate-KIC. When many VCs and startups focus on very specific models and features, Climate-KIC recognises that no single organisation or individual can change systems and solve the climate challenge on their own. So Climate-KIC works with a network of organisations including governments, universities, industries, to accelerate Australia’s response to climate change: including ‘hard to abate’ supply chains, R&D of new technologies, and community engagement.My role: to help the team structure a large multiyear program to establish a "NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub" to "meet emissions targets and adapt to climate change, while generating economic development, prosperity and jobs growth in NSW". The Program is part of the NSW Government’s Net Zero Plan to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030, and achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Its focus is on large scale systems transformation. Headquartered in Amsterdam, it operates from 13 hubs across Europe and is active in 39 countries. EIT Climate-KIC was established in 2010 and is predominately funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.My role was to support the CEO, EU partners and funders with their "sense-making” of complex trends and ecosystems to design their governance and portfolio of initiatives, and transform the EU Climate Agency from a traditional “grant administrator of public money” into a “VC managing a portfolio of strategic projects through impact investing”.I worked across key themes: Clean Cities, Landscapes as Carbon Sinks, Climate-friendly Food Systems, Transitions of Heavy Industry Regions into Resilient Regions, Circular economy, Net-Zero-Emissions Maritime Hubs, Climate metrics, Long-Term Sustainable finance.https://www.climate-kic.org
